Sin, Transgressions and Iniquity are

In our everyday lives we are faced with trials and temptations from Satin that could affect our relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and If we didn’t know any better. Jesus talks about the lack of knowledge and how you can damage your relationship and not even know it.

Hosea 4:6
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Words like Sin, transgressions and Iniquity are used in the Bible a lot to tell us what we can and cannot do. Often people don’t know what they mean or don’t know the full meaning.

  1. Sin is when we do something that the Bible clearly teaches is wrong but we do it anyways. Like not loving our neighbor, not loving God, cheating, stealing etc.

    James chapter 4:17
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. It’s important to remember that it’s if we continue in sin it becomes a problem. We all make mistakes and no one is perfect but we need to repent of our sins and except Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior!
“When we sin, it can either be evil or not, depending on whether the harm suffered by others or ourselves was deliberately inflicted or not.” – Dave Whittle
  2. Transgressions is when we don’t know what we are doing is wrong. “A transgression is something that is against a command or law. Whether you are cheating on a test, or cheating on a spouse, you are committing transgressions that are not easily forgiven.”  “Our conscience is generally not too bothered by transgression. Examples: Adam and Eve’s transgression, little white lies, pre-marital sex in South Pacific cultures, etc.”- Dave Whittle Exodus 23:19-22 19The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk. 20Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.  21Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. 22But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
  3. Iniquity

“Sin; wickedness; evil. immoral or grossly unfair behavior.”
Jeremiah 31:34 – And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We will be forgiven by God if we confess our sins to him, repent, and believe in Jesus with all our heart. He will cleanse us none of our past matters if we believe in Jesus and don’t continue in sin!
